Qualitative Study of Investor Attraction and Private Sector Development Using Grounded Theory with Emphasis on the Role of Media (A Case Study of Shams Abad Industrial Town)

Abstract :

Today, private sector development and attracting investors are key development goals for many countries. The media, with its broad reach, is a crucial tool for achieving these goals. This study analyzes the role of the media in investor attraction and private sector development specifically in Shamsabad Industrial Park. Using a qualitative research design based on Grounded Theory, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 16 managers, officials, and private sector experts, selected through purposeful sampling. The analysis produced 704 open codes, 67 axial codes, and 17 selective codes. The findings identified several causal conditions including the media’s transmission of transparent economic information, its persuasive role, promotion of investment opportunities, and assurance of socio-economic security. Contextual conditions highlighted the importance of facilitating laws, the educational role of media, support for free media, and provision of infrastructure. Intervening conditions included diplomatic relations, economic stability, and fostering a culture of social participation. The study reveals that the core phenomenon is “sustainable economic development and the persuasive role of the media.” Achieving private sector development requires creating stability, economic security, policy reform, and strategically leveraging the media’s persuasive power to build investor confidence. These findings provide important insights for policymakers, media professionals, and industrial managers to enhance investment through effective media engagement
